Retail Assist short-listed for RBS award

International luxury store chain, Harvey Nichols, and its solutions and services partner, Retail Assist, have secured a place on the shortlist for January 2009’s Retail Business Show Awards.

The duo’s entry for one of the ‘Business of Retailing’ categories is based upon Harvey Nichols’ use of business intelligence software, Merret BI.

Merret BI, from Retail Assist and powered by BOARD, is a retail-specific solution for BI and CPM. It comes with retail-ready reports, programming-free architecture and an easy to use interface, allowing retailers to realise business benefits almost immediately.

Chosen by Harvey Nichols to replace Business Objects, Arthur Planning and Hyperion, Merret BI allows retailers to deliver not only traditional BI but also Corporate Performance management, in a single integrated environment, throughout all business units.

The Awards judges were looking for tangible business improvements from the implemented Business Intelligence solution. The submission explained how combining multiple data sources, including sales, financial and external information, had previously been an issue for Harvey Nichols. However, since introducing Merret BI, producing reports, budgets, forecasts, plans and analysis in a single view, is easy and manual amalgamation of multiple reports is no longer necessary.

Harvey Nichols has made good use of Merret BI’s programming-free architecture, which allows users to manipulate information more effectively. Drill-anywhere capabilities means issues are identified and acted upon promptly.

Self-sufficiency is one of the key features of Merret BI, powered by BOARD, and Harvey Nichols’ users have been empowered to find out more about their business, without the need to approach IT, resulting in rapid, more effective decision-making.

Harvey Nichols’ Retail Operations Director, Martin Schofield selected Merret BI. He says: ‘We were driven by a business need and displacing multiple legacy solutions. Our reporting is now more accurate and, as we have only one licence to pay, it’s more cost-effective. The new solution is easier to implement and easier to use. User requests can be actioned in hours, not days. With the Merret BI framework in place, we can build in enhancements that will support our business expansion.’
